Storm Update

  • All Seated and Virtual Classes Canceled for Wednesday, April 30

    April 29, 2025

    Dear SPS families:

Springfield experienced a major weather event today that caused widespread power outages and significant storm damage throughout our community. We are incredibly grateful that all of our students and staff remained safe while sheltering in place and that there have been no reports of serious injuries in our area.

While none of our schools sustained major damage, nearly half of our buildings are currently without power. As a result, Springfield Public Schools will cancel all seated and virtual classes for Wednesday, April 30. State testing for Launch virtual students will continue as scheduled. Wednesday’s cancellations will allow us to assess the full extent of the storm’s impact, support recovery efforts, and give emergency response teams the space and time needed to improve safety on roads and sidewalks.

Given the scale of the impact, we understand that many families, including those of our students and staff, are coping with the impact of the storm at home. We want you to know that your SPS family is here to support you.

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to City Utilities and the many agencies working tirelessly to restore electricity and to support our community during this time.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate the days ahead together. Updates will be provided as new information is available and will be posted at www.sps.org
