Prior to working at Pittman, I was a sub for 12 years working mostly long-term assignments in teacher and secretarial positions. I have a degree in Commercial Interior Design from SMSU (now Missouri State) which I “retired” from after my son was born. My husband is Jon and we have been married for 26 years. Our son Andrew is getting ready to graduate from Missouri S&T and start his engineering career in January. Murdock Julie Murdock, Julie Nurse Office I have been a nurse for 6 years. This is my first year at Pittman and I am so excited to be in a smaller school. My husband and I were born and raised here in Springfield (high school sweethearts.) I have 25 year old twins and a 22 year old daughter. I love anything outside. You can find me sitting on my front porch or out by our creek. Becker Victoria Becker, Victoria Teacher 0-Kindergarten This is my 18th year of teaching kindergarten and my 14th year at Pittman. Kindergarten is where my heart is and even though this year may look a little different, our kindergarten year will be filled with love, laughter, fun, and lots of learning. I am originally from Orlando, Florida but I grew up as a military brat and moved around quite a bit growing up. Chism Angel Chism, Angel Teacher 3rd Grade Angel Chism has been an educator for 22 years. She has a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Williams University. Angel then moved to New Orleans where she earned her Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction, with certification in Early Childhood Education. Angel taught Kindergarten in New Orleans for 11 years before moving to Springfield. In 2011, she married her college sweetheart and began teaching at Pittman. Brown Emily Brown, Emily Teacher 5th Grade My name is Emily Brown and this is my 17th year at Pittman. All of those 17 years have been at Pittman in 5th grade. I love my Pittman family! I grew up in Springfield and went to college at Drury University for both my Bachelors and Masters degrees. Before Pittman, I taught third, fourth and fifth grade at Watkins Elementary. I am very excited to teach second grade this year! Matz Manden Matz, Manden Reading Specialist Specialty I began my teaching career in 2000 after earning my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from Drury University. A few years later, I completed my master’s degree in Reading, Language, and Literacy at Georgia State University. I’ve been working as a reading specialist since 2002, starting at Fordland Elementary. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to support students and teachers at both Watkins Elementary and Pittman Elementary. Doak , Doak Certified Therapy Dog Support Staff Doak became a certified therapy dog in 2023 and takes his job very seriously—especially the part where he gets all the pets between reading classes. He works full-time in the reading classroom, where his main responsibilities include listening to stories, boosting student confidence, and looking adorable while doing it. He proudly shares hallway greeter duties with his fellow therapy dog, Hope, and together they spread smiles and tail wags throughout the school.
